  Material Selection for Cryogenic Valves The working fluids of cryogenic valves are not only cold but also often toxic, flammable, or explosive, as well as highly permeable. This dictates many special requirements for valve materials. The mechanical properties of steel at cryogenic temperatures differ from those at room temperature. Besides strength, the most important performance characteristic of cryogenic steel is its low-temperature impact toughness. This low-temperature impact toughness is related to the material's brittle transition temperature; the lower the brittle transition temperature, the better the low-temperature impact toughness. Metals with a body-centered cubic lattice, such as carbon steel, experience low-temperature brittleness, while the impact toughness of metals with a face-centered cubic lattice, such as austenitic stainless steel, is largely unaffected by low temperatures.   The materials used for pressure-resistant components such as the valve body and bonnet of cryogenic valves typically utilize tough materials with good low-temperature strength. Factors such as weldability, machinability, stability, and cost-effectiveness must also be considered. Engineering companies typically design for low-temperature grades of -46°C, -101°C, and -196°C. Low-temperature carbon steel is generally used for the -46°C low-temperature grade, while 300 series austenitic stainless steel is generally used for the -101°C and -196°C low-temperature grades. This type of stainless steel has moderate strength, good toughness, and good processing properties. According to ASMEB31.3, the lowest applicable temperature of commonly used materials for low-temperature valves.

Causes of Low-Temperature Valve Leakage     There are two main causes: internal leakage and external leakage.   Internal leakage The primary cause of internal valve leakage is deformation of the sealing assembly at low temperatures. When the medium's temperature drops to a point where the material undergoes a phase change, the resulting volume change can cause the previously precision-ground sealing surface to warp and deform, resulting in a poor seal at low temperatures.   External leakage Valve leakage: One possible cause of leakage is when the valve and pipeline are connected using flanges. This occurs when the gaskets, bolts, and fittings contract asynchronously at low temperatures, leading to relaxation and leakage. Therefore, switching the valve body to the pipeline connection from flanges to welded connections can avoid low-temperature leakage. The second cause of leakage is leakage between the valve stem and packing.

Brief Introduction   Cryogenic globe valve refers to a valve in which the closing member (valve) moves along the center line of the valve seat. According to this form of movement of the valve flap, the change of the valve seat port is directly proportional to the stroke of the valve flap. Because the opening or closing stroke of the valve stem of this type of valve is relatively short, and has a very reliable cut-off function, and because the change of the valve seat port is proportional to the stroke of the valve flap, it is very suitable for adjusting the flow rate. Therefore, this type of valve is very suitable for shut-off or regulation and throttling.     Notes When Use 1 . It should ensure that the pipe is blown clean before installation.   2 . When installing, make sure that the flow direction indicated by the arrow on the valve body should be consistent with the flow direction of the fluid.   3 . This valve has been degreased. Store and keep clean when installing.   4 . After the pipeline construction is completed, all the valves on the pipeline should be opened, and the residue in the pipeline should be thoroughly and thoroughly kept to ensure that the pipeline system is clean and free of debris.   5 . The installation system diagram with the oil-free requirements should be degreased.   6 . Slowly open and close during use.   7 . If the precision parts such as the valve disc, valve seat and valve stem are worn or damaged, it must be repaired and replaced in time.   8 .
